About Us

Hi there and welcome! I’m Greta, a lifelong maker who believes the real fun is in the process. I love turning simple materials into something new and joyful. My husband David and I got our start at Colorado craft fairs, and we’re so happy to bring our work to new audiences.

Designing kits and patterns, enabling the creativity of others, and making hand crafted items is at the core of Darilyn Designs. All of our products are original designs, each with unique character and handmade in Colorado, USA.

Our Story

Creativity is Contagious

In my professional life, I’m a tech leader focused on solving complex problems and building thoughtful systems. Creativity and imagination are central to that work. I’ve found that making things with my hands helps me think more clearly and solve problems more imaginatively. And when my work sparks new ideas, that energy finds its way back into my crafts. It’s a creative loop that keeps me grounded and growing. David is very similar; many of his interests and hobbies feed into our creative process and vice versa. He’s always walking around with the attitude of “what if we…” and that curiosity pushes our thinking in new directions all the time.

Raised by Makers

I grew up surrounded by artists. My mom and aunts are endlessly talented and my dad was a contractor who brought comfort and warmth into every home he touched. Being raised in a world where creativity was both expressive and practical gave me an early appreciation for the meaning, care, and happiness handmade objects can carry.

David’s family was similar, and he grew up steeped in music, art, and meticulously restored machines. When David and I met, we quickly realized creativity was a value that we both shared. He introduced me to his love of tools and the joy of precision that comes from experience. Together, our skill sets, design sense, and failure tolerance has made us a powerful creative team.

Treasures with a Past

Some of what we make starts with materials that already had a life. It began in college, when we couldn’t always afford what we wanted new from the store, so we learned to hunt: garages, yard sales, estate sales, and the overflowing craft rooms of generous makers everywhere. Forgotten fabric, notions, and odd little findings with untold stories behind them.

That habit stuck. It shows up in one-of-a-kind pieces more than in the kits, which need materials we can source consistently so every box is the same. But the instinct behind it, use what’s here, waste less, look twice at what someone else passed over, is still how we think about design.
