About Hanna

HOW IT STARTED

Surprisingly, it wasn’t crafting that first captured my attention, but robotics in high school. (Who doesn’t love a cool robot?!) Through STEM, I discovered how much I loved working with my hands and bringing ideas to reality. Years later, COVID left me searching for something to do at home, so I decided to try embroidery. A task I could do on the couch with a movie and snacks. It turned out to be the perfect combination of art, discovery, and patience, and has become my main hobby. From there, I started to blend my love of technical with the enjoyment of art.

TWO WAYS OF SOLVING PROBLEMS

Today, my old and new skills have complemented each other in ways I didn’t expect. To me, engineering and crafting aren’t separate, they’re two ways of solving problems and creating. I notice smaller details when troubleshooting, I design with aesthetics in mind, and I’m more willing to try new things in and out of the machine shop.

IN AND OUT OF THE MACHINE SHOP

Milling, turning, laser cutting, water jet cutting, 3D printing, all the way to painting, stitching, and more. The fear of not being good at something new has fallen to the wayside. Maybe not every attempt is successful, but I learn more and more with each try. And that is worth every penny.

Made by a small circle of hands

Everything at Darilyn Designs comes from independent makers like Hanna. Supporting the studio supports them, too.
